Fab fact: this dress once belonged to Shirley. As a sassy single woman in the 1960s she worked as an interior decorator. She bought her first house in Sydney’s Paddington when she was 24 years old, all by herself. She didn’t like Sydney though and said it was ‘too snobby yet unsophisticated’ for her tastes, quickly moving back to her native Melbourne. She kept her career until she got married a fellow interior designer. She subsequently left him when it turned out he was gay. A life well lived with many ebbs and flows. Did I mention that a nun stole all her money? She wore this dress as she was crowned “Miss Dulux Australia” in the early 1960s.
